The Police Administration has donated a total amount of 24 million cedis to 12 people who sustained various degrees of injury while assisting the police to apprehend four suspected armed robbers at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Frank Adu-Poku presented the money to the victims on behalf of the Administration, in Kumasi on Wednesday.
A release from the Regional Police Public Relations Unit signed by Inspector Mohammed Tanko said the victims, who each received two million cedis included Patrick Awamena, Mahamudu Issaka, Abdullai Dramani, Kwabena Kyei, Stephen Amoako and Osei Kofi.
The rests are Yaw Owusu, Kwame Boateng, Alhassan Shaibu, Kwaku Twum, Kwaku Agyarko and Kwadwo Owusu.
The release said on the fateful day, police at Konongo in the Asante-Akim North District of the Region had a tip off that a gang of armed robbers had laid siege of the Braku forest and Asankare portion of the Kumasi-Accra highway and were robbing passengers on a bus of unspecified amount of money and other valuables.
The release said the police decided to pursue them and when they got to Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region, they spotted four young men standing by the road side.
They fired at the police and fled into the forest when the police attempted to approach them to inquire if they had seen any armed robbers.
According to the release, the 12 people volunteered to assist the police and they all boarded a vehicle to the chase the robbers.
In the process, the vehicle skidded off the road the 12 sustained various degrees of injury.
