Two men have been sentenced to a total of 80 years by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for robbery on the Berekum-Debiso highway in the Sefwi district of the Western Region.
The two, Ibrahim Jalow, 25, and Abudulai Musah, 20, both nationals of Burkina Faso, appeared in court on Wednesday and were sentenced to 40 years each.
The Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Chief Inspector Olivia Adiku, said that at about 2.30am on Saturday, March 7, Mr Kwame Bempong, the local chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) at Sefwi Yamatwa, near Debiso, reported to the police incidents of attacks on vehicles from Berekum to Debiso.
Chief Inspector Adiku said that at about 10.20am the same day, the Asawinso police arrested Jalow and Abudulai on suspicion and when they were interrogated they confessed to the crime and mentioned an accomplice, Bukari Adamu, who is on the run.
He said during a search, police found four assorted mobile phones and an amount of GH¢152 in the pocket of Jalow while Abdulai also had GH¢82 on him.
