Over 200 workers of Airways Catering Services Limited have begun a sit down strike to protest the arrest of two of their colleagues.
Officials of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) arrested the two last Friday for an alleged fraud.
The strike is also to back demands for improved service conditions. The workers led by the General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress have accused management of causing the arrest of their leaders.
The management has denied any involvement in the arrest saying it was caused by the Agricultural Development Bank after it detected a fraudulent transfer of over 37 million dollars from the company's accounts into private accounts.
The Deputy General Secretary of the Union, Prince Alfred Amissah, said the sit down strike will continue for as long as it takes to resolve the workers' grievances.
The management has deployed police officers at its premises to protect property.
Finance Manager at the company, Samuel Tindanbil, said he's surprised at the workers action.
