The local Black Stars have their destiny in their own hands when they come up against DR Congo in a must-win final Group B match in the Championship of Africa Tournament in Bouake Ivory Coast, Sunday.
The Stars have just two points from six, after two disappointing come-back draws against Zimbabwe and Libya.
DR Congo on the other hand pummeled Libya by 2-0 in their group opener and were held to a pulsating 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe.
Sunday’s match may well mark the end of the road for either of the two, and DR Congo needing just a draw to sail through are clear favourites.
The Stars have everything to play for and everything to lose in this final group game.
Strikers Yaw Antwi and Kwodwo Poku whose performances have been suspect in the competition so far must learn to take their chances in front of goal.
Defenders, Michael Osei Bonsu, Iddrisu Yahya or back-from-suspension Ofosu Appiah who are likely to be the central defence pair must shirk off their usual lack of concentration.
Coach Milovan Rajevac will have a difficulty choosing between the array of mid-field talents at his disposal.
Skipper Edmund Owusu-Ansah whose priceless equalizer against Libya saved the blushes of the Stars will make a strong case to be in the starting line-up and so too will Rahim Ayew. Enterprising Jordan Opoku, Agyemang Badu, and Charles Taylor and experienced Daniel Yeboah will also be gunning for positions as well.
The match undoubtedly will not come any easy for the Stars.
Dr. Congo, a resilient side will count on Mapi Mputu, Dioko Kaluyituka and Lofo Bongeli to unlock the Stars defence.
Elsewhere, Libya will play against Zimbabwe in another crucial Group B game. Both matches will start at 16:00 GMT.
