About four hundred workers of the Volta Aluminium Company, VALCO, laid-off as a result of last week's shut down of the company have been paid their redundancy packages on Monday.
VALCO had to shutdown as a result of the energy crisis facing the country.
Despite initial agitations, the affected workers are said to have accepted their packages even though reluctantly.
The Acting Head of Human Resource, Ben Agbai said the company did it best to ensure the package was fair considering that VALCO was only rejuvenated about 18 months ago.
The package consisted of three months notice pay and two months salary for redundancy, and Ben Agbai said there will be other extended benefits such as the payment of full salary for March and leave allowance for the year as well as the provision of medical benefits to employees and their dependants.
