A group of smugglers on Sunday abandoned 250 full pieces of imitation wax prints they were unloading into a vehicle at Wutey near Akatsi in the Volta Region when a Police Patrol team closed up on them.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in charge of the Abor/Akatsi District Police, Joseph Haywoode who confirmed the story said the patrol team upon a tip off chased the smugglers on the Akatsi-Ziope road linking the Ho-Aflao trunk road at about 0430 hours.
He said on reaching Wutey, the team spotted some men unloading goods unto a vehicle ahead of them, but before the team could get close some of the men fled on foot while others got away in the vehicle.
DSP Haywoode said so far no one had come forward to claim ownership of the goods.
