Chiefs smoke peace pipe

The Omanhene of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II has exhorted Ghanaians to use President Mills' commitment to peace to resolve chieftaincy and other disputes in the country. As a sign of his commitment, Obrifo Ahor Ankobea and Nana Ahunako Bonsu, the Chief of Gomoa Buduatta who have engaged in a litigation at the courts for the past eight years have decided to discontinue pursuing the case in court to enable them to smoke the peace pipe. He made the exhortation at National Democratic Congress (NDC) thanksgiving and fund-raising durbar at Gomoa Buduatta on Sunday. Obrifo Ahor Ankobea expressed regret that instead of people showing appreciation for peacemakers, they were rather regarded as timid or fearful. He called on supporters of NDC to emulate the President Mills’ humility and desist from acts which could tarnish his image. He urged the people not to be seen as mere voters but must initiate programmes to attract support from the government. Mr. Ekow Okyere Panyin, Member of Parliament for Gomoa East said he would lead his constituents to use communal labour to transform their conditions of living. He assured the chiefs that they would not be sidelined during his tenure of office. Warrant Officer Class One (WO 1) Richard Annan (Retd), an opinion leader of Buduatta urged the people to forget the acrimonies of the 2008 elections and forge ahead in unity to develop the town. Mr Kweku Sersah-Johnson, Deputy Director of Information Service Department and a citizen of the town who was very instrumental in forging unity between the Omanhene and Nana Bonsu, expressed gratitude to them for deciding to withdraw the case from the court. He appealed to the kingmakers and elders to ensure that the peace pipe they have decided to smoke was made a reality. Source: GNA
