The Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) District Assembly, in conjunction with Cyclus Waste Management of the Netherlands, is to establish a plastic waste recycling company by the end of the year. The assembly has consequently embarked on the collection of plastic waste with the aim of generating enough materials to feed the company, when it becomes operational. To achieve this, the assembly has provided the Cape Coast Municipal, Abura Asebu-Kwamankese and Twifo-Heman Lower Denkyira District Assemblies with 100 litter bins each at a cost of ¢250 million for waste collection. The KEEA District Chief Executive, George Frank Asmah, announced in Elmina at the handing over of an ambulance, fire and rescue tenders and their accessories donated by the Gouda municipality in the Netherlands to the District Health Directorate as well as the district and regional fire offices. Mr. Asmah said the assembly had also taken delivery of 2,000 waste bins from the Gouda Municipality and distributed them to schools, health centres, residential areas and market places with the aim of improving upon sanitary conditions in the district. He expressed the assembly’s determination to sustaining the existing Sister-City Partnership between the KEEA and the Gouda municipality. He called for the training of fire personnel in the district as well as the region on the use of the equipment. The Mayor of Gouda Municipality, Mr. Von Cornelius, called for unity and cooperation among the citizens in order to enhance development of the area.
