The annual Ashanti Regional Inter-Schools Athletics competition is scheduled to come off in Kumasi with the participating schools, students and supporters advised to desist from acts that would undermine the objectives and beauty of the Festival.
The competition takes-off from February 9 to February 27 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Mr. Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education in a press release said the competition is aimed at unearthing young talents to be trained to become national assets.
The statement explained that the major objectives were to enable the education authorities to evaluate practical teaching of Physical Education and Sports and to create a platform for the students to interact.
It noted, however, that during such previous competitions, some miscreants among the students and the public usually misconduct themselves and therefore advised to desist from such acts.
Mr Onyinah appealed to the media houses to help enlighten spectators, supporters and participants to comport themselves at such festivals so as not to tarnish the image of the region.
The statement commended media houses in the Region for their immense support by exposing some of the miscreants and said he was optimistic that the continuous assistance of the media would ensure the success of the Festival.
It urged operators of drinking bars around the sports stadium to desist from selling alcoholic beverages to the students.
