Lack of national vision thwarts development

The Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, Professor Stephen Addai, says the country’s underdevelopment is due largely to the lack of a national vision. Prof. Addai says the country has had only one national vision which is the seven-year development plan drawn up by Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Speaking to Joy News about leadership in the country over the past 50 years, Prof. Addai said for a greater part of Ghana’s history, leadership has been bad. However, he noted that the situation has changed since the inception of the Fourth Republic. Prof. Addai also expressed concern about the lack of a national think-tank to help advice government on development issues has contributed to the underdevelopment. He took a swipe at leaders of civil society and members of the academia for not contributing towards the country’s development.
