Court jails two persons on narcotic charges

Takoradi Circuit Court “A” on Wednesday sentenced Kofi Yeboah, a driver’s mate, to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour for possession narcotic drug. Akari Nabil, a porter, was jointly charged with him, to 10 year imprisonment for supplying the narcotic drug. The accused persons pleaded not guilty. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Alice Parker-Wilson, said on February 20 last year, personnel of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service, on patrol duties at the Takoradi Port, had a tip-off that Yeboah was selling narcotic drugs at the Railway Market in the area. She said the personnel proceeded to the market and spotted Yeboah at the exact spot the informant told them. Chief Inspector Parker-Wilson said Yeboah was arrested and 10 wrappers of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found concealed in a black polythene bag in his trousers pocket when he was searched. She said when interrogated, Yeboah admitted that the leaves were Indian hemp but that the hemp belonged to his friend Nabil. Chief Inspector Parker-Wilson said Nabil was also arrested and when questioned, he said although he had been supplying Yeboah with narcotics to sell to customers, he had no knowledge of the 10 wrappers of Indian hemp.
