A scrap dealer, who administered some drugs to her girlfriend after inserting some into her private part ostensibly to terminate her pregnancy, on Monday appeared before a Circuit Court in Accra charged with intentionally and unlawfully causing abortion.
Rauf Alhassan pleaded not guilty to the charge but the court remanded him into police custody to reappear on February 16, 2009.
Chief Inspector Mary Adika said both accused and the 16 year-old victim both reside at Kokomba market.
Prosecution said in December last year, Alhassan proposed to the victim and had sex with her.
The prosecutor said the victim on January 17, this year detected that she was pregnant and informed Alhassan.
On January 19, this year, Alhassan invited the victim into his room, administered some drugs to her, inserted some of the drugs into her private part, had sex with her and escaped.
Prosecution said the victim later fell unconscious and she was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where she was admitted.
A report was later made to the Police and Alhassan was apprehended.
The prosecutor said the police was yet to receive the medical officer’s report for further action.
