Cops rewarded for cocaine

Six policemen have been rewarded by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for their high sense of professionalism in arresting three suspected cocaine dealers who were transporting 399 parcels of cocaine to Bamako. The truck with registration number GT 3359 Z which had a secret compartment where the parcels of cocaine were concealed was intercepted by the six policemen obviously upon a tip-off, at Nsawam in the Eastern region on May 30 last year. The ‘consignment’ was on its way to Accra enroute to Bamako, Mali. In a citation before the giving of the awards at the Eastern regional police headquarters on Friday, the IGP said the gallant policemen were being rewarded for their high sense of professionalism which led to the arrest of the cocaine, believed to be the largest haul in recent times. They were given GH¢500 each and a certificate of commendation. The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Police Service, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Frank Adu-Poku, who made the presentation on behalf of the IGP, commended the policemen for their bravery and show of integrity. He said the policemen could have compromised their professionalism and allowed themselves to be bribed but they exhibited great sense of professionalism and arrested the culprits. According to him, they had demonstrated that there were still very professional policemen who are ready to uphold the integrity of the Police Service. "The amount involved may be small but the certificate accompanying it will say a lot about your career as a policeman which cannot be replaced by money," DCOP Adu-Poku told them. The Director-General of the CID pointed out that the IGP was rewarding the six policemen to show the world that the police administration is ready to reward high sense of professionalism. He therefore asked all policemen to emulate the example of the six, to help preserve the integrity of the police service. The six policemen included an inspector, two detective sergeants, two general sergeants and one detective lance corporal. Source: Daily Guide
