The Ministry of Health says the Controller and Accountant General’s freezing of salaries of health workers who did not work during their unilateral 10-day strike is just the beginning of a series of actions to be taken against the health workers.
Health workers without the support of their leadership embarked on a strike which ended on Monday to push for speedy correction of the distortions of their salaries.
According to a source at the Health Ministry, the action was unacceptable since the appellate body to deal with the issue will present its report at the end of March.
Joy News has learnt that managers of health facilities have been instructed to compile a list of staff that were part of the strike for confirmation and action from the Ministry.
Sources hint that the dismissal of those involved cannot be ruled out but said a careful scrutiny of the list will determine the appropriate action to be taken.
The Health Ministry said it will consider an appeal from health workers if one is made.
