CHRAJ dragged to Labour Commission

Less than 24 hours after the historic overturn of its earlier ruling on Hon Richard Anane, former Road Transport Minister by an Accra Fast Track High Court, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice is billed for another showdown. The Commission has been dragged to the Labour Commission by one of its own staff who is seeking redress for what he called victimization, conflict of interest and abuse of office. Raymond Osanyongmor, an investigator with the Commission in the Eastern Region, who is the complainant has pleaded with the Labour Commission to investigate a number of unjustified actions against him. The charges included pecuniary penalty and seizure of his remuneration for one year, forced labour and discrimination. According to him, he had become a target of his boss at the regional office in Koforidua simply because he had refused to compromise on certain wrong labour practices he was directed to undertake. In a complaint dated February 6, 2006, the complainant claimed that the acting Eastern Regional Director, Stephen Okpoti Mensah had taken punitive actions against him because he (complainant) would not favour his girlfriend, one Paullina Addo who had a case at the Odumase Krobo Office. "For six months now, the first respondent has subjected me to series of cruel acts of victimization owing to the facts that I failed to favour his girlfriend in a case which came before CHRAJ, Odumase Krobo District Office," the complaint said. When contacted, Mr Mohammed Affum, PR Officer of the Labour Commission confirmed that his outfit had been petitioned and CHRAJ had been asked to respond to the allegations.
