CPP, government negotiate on posts

As part of his all-inclusive government, President Atta Mills has offered opportunity to members of the opposition Convention People’s Party to serve in his administration. Although the party remained neutral in the 2008 presidential runoff, members are currently on negotiating table to nominate competent members to form part of the present administration. Dr. Kwaku Osafo, a leading member of the CPP, who disclosed this on Joy FM’s current affairs programme, Newsfile, on Saturday, however, did not name names but was confident Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, CPP’s presidential candidate in 2008 general elections, would not be one of them. Dr. Nduom, who conceded defeats when counting was still underway in the first round of the presidential election, had already served notice that he would not accept any offer from the government – irrespective of being led by the National Democratic Congress or the New Patriotic Party. “They are still negotiating on possible positions for regional [ministers], deputy ministers and district chief executives and possibly ministerial position,” Dr. Osafo noted. He said some party executives are at the helm of affairs negotiating on behalf of the CPP and stated emphatically that the party’s nomination would purely be based on merits. “It is more on the basis of peoples’ competence and areas of expertise rather than an offer to members of the executives for anything. “It’s picking up some of the best materials that may be needed to supplement the NDC’s government.” Story by Isaac Essel
