Minority parties demand their share

The minority parties that backed the NDC in the presidential run-off have started reminding the government of promises made to them. Even though president Mills has been in office for barely one week, the minority parties say it is time they started reaping the benefits of their endorsement. The Reformed Patriotic Democrats (RPD), which broke off from the NPP, says the NDC must honour their promise of appointments and positions in the government. The party’s presidential candidate for the 2008 presidential elections, Mr. Kwabena Adjei, told Joy News persons in the party had sent their CVs to the appointments committee headed by Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu for consideration. He said the party was promised position with three options; ministerial appointment, ambassadorial appointment and District Chief Executive positions. He said the party was demanding the position because “agreement is agreement whether verbal or written.” Officials of the PNC say discussions are on-going between the government and the party. National Chairman Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan said “we are still negotiating with them and when we finish negotiation then we will see the commitment”. Even the Democratic People’s Party which remained neutral and in fact expelled its members who made endorsements expects some spoils from the government. The presidential candidate of the party, Mr Thomas Ward Brew, said the NDC should not make the mistake of ignoring his party. Story by Malik Abass Daabu
