CHRAJ receives 103 complaints

The Nkwanta District Office of Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has between January 2006 and February this year, received 103 complaints as against 82 complaints received between January 2005 to February 2006. The Nkwanta District Director of CHRAJ, Clement Kpegah said 97 out of the 103 complaints had been settled successfully, one referred to the chiefs and elders of Nkwanta, while five were still pending. He said 33 of the complaints were unfair treatments, 30 on non-maintenance of spouses and children, 11 were forced marriages, 10 were pregnancy denials, three were breach of agreements, one for termination of appointment, and destruction of farm property. Mr Kpegah said Human Rights Clubs were formed in seven basic schools in the district as part of their educational campaign programme last year to educate the citizenry on their rights and responsibilities. He said inadequate supply of educational materials; logistics and lack of electricity to their new office were affecting operations of the commission in the district. Source: GNA
