The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has called on the Atta Mills government to prioritize passing the Broadcasting bill into law. President of the Association Ransford Tetteh says the law would help regulate activities in the broadcast media. Mr. Tetteh expressed regrets over the standards of broadcast journalism exhibited by some of the electronic media during the just ended election, hoping the situation will improve with the coming into being of the new law. “Some radio stations did things that nearly undermined the security and the peace of the country and therefore we think it’s about time we did something to ensure sanity and to smoothen the industry.” He noted. The GJA President hoped the cordial relationship the NDC, then in opposition, brokered with the media will be continued in government. He said the government must see the media as an ally in the development of the country. Story by Nathan Gadugah
