The Catholic Archbishop of Cape Coast, Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson, says he looks forward to an improved relationship between the former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Jerry John Rawlings.
The two men have had a very cold relationship over the last eight years of the administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Former President Rawlings had chided the former NPP government for persecuting some members of the then opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr Kufuor is also on record to have accused Mr Rawlings of negatively branding the NPP during his travels abroad.
Although different groups have attempted reconciling the two statesmen, their efforts rather landed on the rocks.
But speaking to Joy FM on Tuesday Cardinal Appiah Turkson said there is an improved chance of a more cordial relationship between the two, especially, when they have something in commom – being former Presidents.
He pointed the experiences of the two men are very central to the development of the country.
“Such experience of statesmanship can enable them to play a great advocacy role for this country,” he said.
The archbishop stated that with the two men having been able to lead a peaceful democracy it is time they came together to affect the state of governance on the African continent.
He indicated that Ghana now has a lot of international goodwill, adding, it is his hope that the two men would join hands to deepen the country’s international image.
