Madam Rose Owusua-Serwah, Chairperson of Gomoa-Nyekuadze Unit Committee, has appealed to President John Evans Atta Mills, to use his good offices to maintain the ‘Free Delivery System’ for expectant women under the National Health Insurance Policy.
Madam Owusua-Serwah made the appeal at a meeting at which members of the Gomoa-Nyekuadze Unit Committee discussed this year’s week-long annual Afashye festival of the chiefs and people of Nyekuadze on Thursday.
She commended the previous government for introducing the free delivery system as part of the National Health Insurance Scheme, saying that, the system had come to save many women from serious complications which could have virtually led to their death.
Mad. Owusua-Serwah admitted that since the policy was introduced in July 1, last year, many expectant female citizens in the two Gomoa Districts have derived great benefits from it.
The Ebusuapanyin of Nyekuadze, Nana Kofi Sakyi-Aidoo, mentioned clean-up and keep-fit exercises, special health educational activities, outdooring of the new Queen-Mother of Nyekuadze, Nana Odaaba II, are some of the events that will be highlighted during the festivities which takes off officially on January 27, 2009.
According to Ebusuapanyin Kofi Sakyi-Aidoo, the occasion would also be used to sensitize both resident and non-resident citizens of the town on the need to cultivate the spirit of love, unity, and fellow-feeling towards one another to accelerate the development of the town.
Meanwhile, the Unit Committee has appealed to citizens of the town to honour their annual special rate obligation of four Ghana cedis and two Ghana cedis each, for non resident citizens and two Ghana cedis and two Ghana cedis each for resident citizens, respectively.
