Nana Kojo Amoah Ampem Okogyeabuor, a farmer at Nsiakrom near Oppon Valley in the Western Region, was on Tuesday jailed two years by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for impersonation and possessing forged documents.
He was sentenced on his own plea.
The court, presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo, ordered him to re-appear on January 17, 2009 to face another trial of defrauding.
Prosecuting, Inspector Edward Paddy of Tarkwa Police said the complainants who were farmers stay at Dompim-Pepesa near Tarkwa, while the accused, also a farmer, resides at Nsiakrom near Oppong Valley.
He said in November 2008, the accused went to Dompim New site where he introduced himself as a Chief Inspector of the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI).
Inspector Paddy said the accused, who had planned to defraud the complainants, told them that he came from the office of the President of Ghana and that he was detailed to the area to assess their problems for immediate attention.
The complainants said they needed electricity, which the accused promised to provide in addition to granting loans to the needy in the community.
Inspector Paddy said the accused latter succeeded in mobilizing GH¢1000 from the people and showed them his Identity (ID) Card bearing the name Nana Kojo Amoah Ampem Okogyeabuor, Chief Inspector BNI, with telephone number 0276164793 and Post Office Box number M.60.
Inspector Paddy said after collecting the money the accused never came back and after efforts to search for him had failed, the complainants reported the matter to the police. He was later arrested at Nsiakrom near Oppong Valley.
