Mr Albert Boakye Okyere, Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, has appealed to residents of Ashaiman to exhibit good conduct during the run-up to Election 2008.
Mr Okyere asked the residents to tolerate each other's political views to prevent any outbreak of violence in the area as well as prove to the public that Ashaiman had law-abiding citizens.
He said as a new Municipality, it would be impossible for Ashaiman to develop in the midst of violence noting; "without peace we cannot achieve any thing".
He made the appeal when he addressed a durbar of chiefs and people of the Municipality to climax a weeklong programme in commemoration of the "Ashaiman Day Celebration".
The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA) and the Ashaiman Divisional Council organized the celebration, which was on the theme: "The Role Of The Traditional Council In The New Municipality".
The MCE called on the officials of the Electoral Commission and personnel of the national security services to professionally discharge their duties before, during and after the Elections to ensure peace.
Commenting on some of the achievements of the Assembly since its inauguration in April 2008, he said plans were advanced for the construction of a new lorry park and market to decongest the business centre.
He said some roads including those in Official Town, Middle East, Jericho and Afariwa have been upgraded as part of measures to develop the Municipality.
Mr Okyere appealed to developers to obtain permission from the Assembly before commencing work to prevent building haphazardly in the area and encroaching on public lands.
He further appealed to the Traditional Leaders to release land for the construction of a senior high school to augment the effort of the Ashaiman Senior High School, which was the only public second cycle institution in the Municipality.
The MCE also urged residents and traders to regularly pay their taxes to increase the Assembly's revenue for accelerated development.
Nii Adjei Kraku II, Tema Mantse, advised the Assembly to number the streets and houses in the Municipality for easy collection of property rates to step up revenue generation.
Nii Kraku, who was the guest of honour at the durbar, said the Tema Traditional Council (TTC) would divide the Municipality into four headed by sub chiefs to help in the traditional administration of the Municipality.
The Tema Mantse asked chiefs of ethnic groups in Ashaiman to recognize the authority of the divisional council to avoid the creation of traditional misunderstanding in the area.
Nii Armah Shippi, a member of the TTC, in a welcoming address advised residents to respect the culture of Ashaiman and Tema indigenes noting that the Council was not prepared to sacrifice their customary laws and practices.
Certificate of honour were given to residents, assembly members and youth groups that led the town to achieve the municipal status.
