Several people were injured when supporters of former DVLA boss, Joe Osei-Wusu and the NPP incumbent MP for Bekwai constituency clashed at Adwinase.
A car belonging to the NPP parliamentary candidate, Ignatius Kofi Poku-Adusei, was allegedly set ablaze by supporters of Osei-Wusu in the course of the disturbances.
The Ashanti Regional police have intensified security patrols in the area and a number of persons suspected to be involved in the violence have been arrested.
According to a Citi FM report, Kofi Poku-Adusei was supposed to have a rally at Adwinase and therefore sent ans advanced team to survey the area.
The advance team was apparently attacked by Osei-Wusu’s supporters.
The NPP vice chairman of Bekwai constituency, Akwasi Arthur, who described the clash as unusual said it formed part of rough tactics being implored by the MP’s opponent since the campaigns started.
He noted that there was an occasion where the MP’s car was stoned and smashed by alleged supporters of Joe Osei-Wusu.
Mr. Osei-Wusu lost the NPP primaries in Bekwai in the Amansie East District by a ballot after he polled 69 votes against Kofi Adusei's 70 votes.
The aftermath of the closely contested poll was characterised by violence between supporters of Osei-Wusu and a police detachment that forcefully quelled a demonstration by the former.
When all attempts to null the election of Poku-Adusei failed, Joe Osei-Wusu declared his intention to contest the seat as an independent candidate.
