The death toll in the Techiman petrol tanker fire disaster has increased to 29 following the death of four more people.
The four died this morning at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where they were being treated for burns sustained in the fire.
Doctors at the hospital say they are doing their best to save the lives of others are said to be in critical condition.
Twenty-five people were burnt to death on the spot after a fallen petrol tanker they were siphoning petrol from caught fire and exploded.
The injured were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman for care.
The Techiman Municipal Chief Executive Prince Yaw Dogyina, who visited the victims confirmed to Joy News many of the victims were in very critical conditions.
“You could see black people now looking like white people because their skins are peeled off,” he lamented.
He said the necessary assistance will be given to those taking care of the victims.
The Director of the Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit of the KATH, Agaata Ahia gives a rather grim picture of the situation.
She said those on admission have just 10 per cent chances of survival.
According to her the severity of the burns make more deaths a reality.
“There are about 90 to 100 per cent deep burns,” she explained.
