A GH¢100-million major face-lift of the Aflao border, which would span a year has started.
The project involves the completion and rehabilitation of the Aflao border office blocks, residential apartments, reconstruction of the road at the frontier.
Mr Emmanuel Impraim, Assistant Commissioner of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) in charge of the Aflao Sector, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the project had come as a big relief to the border agencies.
He said they had been grappling with insufficient and obsolete equipment which undermined their activities and noted that new residential flats and office blocks, which were abandoned years back, would also be refurbished.
Mr Impraim said the project would restore regular and adequate supply of water to the offices and residential accommodation and end the perennial flooding of the frontier.
He said about 20 contracting firms and other auxiliary ones would be undertaking the rehabilitation.
Mr Impraim said another building construction on-going alongside the border rehabilitation works would be used as a scanning facility ensures efficiency and faster examination of goods.
He said the Scanner Project would help in exposing concealed goods, including drugs and weapons.
Mr Impraim said the project was expected to boost the morale of all categories of workers at the frontier.
He said the current traffic congestion at Aflao, was due to constructional works in the border yard that had left little parking space for trucks.
