The Universal United Youth Organisation (UUY) in the Birim Central Municipality, on Sunday organised a programme on HIV/AIDS prevention and abstinence for residents in Akim Oda.
Speaking at the function, Mr. Eric Pinaman Asare, President of UUY, a non-governmental organisation, cautioned the youth to be circumspect in the use of blades, knives and other sharp instruments since the HIV/AIDS disease could be contracted through them.
Mr. Asare reiterated: "The HIV/AIDS is real. You should therefore, desist from early sex and let the books be your friends".
He noted that the youth, particularly students could justify the huge investments made by their parents, if they studied hard.
Mr. Edward Asiedu Acheampong, the National Organiser, stated that the UUY was aimed at combating stigmatisation, support prevention, and increase availability of treatment, care and support for those infected and affected by the HIV/AIDS.
He said, "UUY tackles poverty and disadvantage through programmes in English, disability and secure livelihood with HIV/AIDS and gender issues running through each programme area".
