A planned demonstration on Tuesday by a section of the Ga-Adangme youth to press home their demand for the release of Ga lands has been suspended, at least, for a day.
The Ga chiefs together with the Ga-Adangme youth have been agitating for the return of lands originally acquired by past and present governments for specific public projects but failed to carry those projects through.
They have vowed to make the NPP government unpopular by embarking on a series of protests if those lands were not returned on November 10.
But for the timely intervention of the information minister, the youth were keen on carrying through their threat just a day after their November 10 deadline.
Apart from the lands, the youth are also demanding the reinstatement of the name Accra Sports Stadium, after the facility was named Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in honour of a prolific sports administrator.
Leader of the youth Prince Derek Adjei told Joy News they will hit the roads on Wednesday if assurances by the Information Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng to resolve their grievances prove futile.
He expressed the hope that the minister’s promise to consult with the Chief of Staff, Kojo Mpiani, and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly boss, Stanley Agyiri Blankson, to address their grievances would yield fruits.
He however threatened the youth would not be restrained from their planned demonstration any further if government reneged on its promise.
