Brigadier-General Nkrumah was speaking at an exercise aimed at preparing military personnel for the polls in December. Two hundred and eighty men and officers from the First, Second, Fifth and 64 battalions of infantry, the 48 Engineers, 66 Artilery and Recce regiments were involved in the exercise. The General Officer Commanding of the Southern Command, Brigadier-General Emmanuel Okyere, said the army had been rehearsing seriously for the December polls and warned all would-be miscreants to desist from creating trouble because they would be dealt with.
