But for the timely intervention of personnel of the Ghana Police Service, there would have been a violent clash between supporters of the New Patriotic Party and the youth of Beposo, in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region.
The NPP were in the community to organise a rally as party of the party’s campaign towards the December general elections.
However, the town had imposed a temporally ban on drumming and noise making, and would therefore not be appropriate to hold any large gathering there.
Nevertheless, this was ignored by the party who stormed the town to campaign. This infuriated some youth of the town who readily organised themselves in an attempt to prevent the NPP supporters from going ahead with the rally.
Initially, an emissary of the town who was sent to summon the NPP supporters was heckled.
ASP Abdulai Iddrisu, Manpong Municipal Police Commander, told Joy News if it had not been the police presence, a clash between the two groups would have been inevitable.
“Some youth of the place had wanted to go to the rally ground so I rushed to the place; one guy, I must say, was hurt but there was no clash.
“One footwear of the linguist was missing,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Nsuta Kwamang Beposo, Hon. Kwame Osei-Prempeh, who is being blamed for the confrontation accuses the police and the Beposohene of intimidation and denied any knowledge of the ban.
“It is very unfortunate if anybody says I am the cause.”
