Peace Train members involved in accident

Some members of the “Peace Train” of the United Ghanaian Artistes for Peace (UGAP) last Sunday sustained various degrees of injury when the InterCity/STC Coaches Limited bus on which they were travelling to attend a thanksgiving service bumped into a speed ramp at Winneba Junction. The incident, which occurred some few metres away from the University of Education round-about, was because the driver was not aware the speed ramps on the road were numerous. The event co-ordinator of the group, Nana Adjoa Awindor, sustained a severe dislocation in the left elbow with musician Okuraseni Samuel sustaining waist injuries. They were, however, rushed to the Winneba Government Hospital where they were treated and later referred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. The “Peace Train” was returning from the Central Regional capital, Cape Coast, after a musical concert aimed at promoting peace before, during and after the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections through music. They were attending a thanksgiving service at the Triumphant Bible Church to round-off the programme at the Wisdom Temple in Winneba. Some motorists who were at the accident scene expressed concern about the number of speed ramps on the road. They said even though the ramps were there to serve a good purpose, it sometimes inconvenienced drivers. They, therefore, appealed to the authorities in the area to take a second look at the situation. The group, however, managed to attend the church service where the resident pastor and members of the church prayed for them and encouraged them not to be discouraged by what had happened but should rather keep the peace campaign they had embarked on.
