The Health Workers Group (HWG) within the public health sector has disassociated itself from the newly formed Health Workers Association of the Nation (HWAN) that clams it is aligned to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The Health Workers Group comprises the Health Service Workers Union of Ghana TUC, Ghana Registered Nurses Association, Association of Health Services Administrators Ghana, Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professionals, Health Accounting Staff Association of Ghana, Ghana Medical Assistants Association and the Ghana Association of Nurse Anaesthetists.
The leadership of the HWG said it had over 48,000 members in the public health sector.
In a press release issued in Accra, Mr. Abu Kuntulo, General Secretary of Health Workers Services Union of TUC and the Chairman of the group on behalf of the HWG, said an impression had been created in the minds of the general public that the leadership of the Health Workers Group has metamorphosed itself in the new group which especially identified itself at the recent NPP rally held at Kasoa in the Central Region.
The release said, “These acts being unprofessional and unethical the HWG leadership is very much aware of their roles and responsibilities which are aimed at delivering quality health care services to the people of Ghana, irrespective of their political affiliation creed, colour, tribe or religion.”
The leadership of the HWG stated that it was a recognised federation of labour unions and associations operating within the public health sector which did not align itself with any particular political party in the country.
