The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has expressed shock at the sudden death of Mr. Kwadwo Baah Wiredu, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning.
The union said it is greatly saddened by death because the minister readily availed himself whenever his assistance was sought.
NUGS carried these sentiments in statement issued in Accra.
“The Union extends its condolence to the wife, children, and family of the late Minister as well as his constituency and His Excellency President John Agyekum Kufour for this sudden occurrence,” the statement said.
“NUGS recounts how respectfully the late Minister treated the Union when he was the Minister of Education and also supported the union to be on her feet.
“It is also worth mentioning how skillfully he handled the unions concerns about the implementation of the talk time tax after the presentation of the 2008 budget to parliament,” it recounted.
The release said Mr. Baah-Wiredu worked hard towards getting a vehicle for NUGS to help solve the transportation problem of the union.
The union lamented that Ghana and indeed the world at large have lost a great person.
NUGS has urged students across Ghana to remember the family of the late minister in prayers and support all efforts aimed at giving him a befitting burial as an excellent statesman.
