The Golden Jubilee flame which arrived at Nkroful on Monday received a rousing welcome by school children, adults, traders and the entire community.
The flame, which was initially scheduled to arrive at 1400 hours, arrived at 1840 and most of the school children, who had lined up the streets with their Ghana flags, had to leave the durbar grounds disappointed.
However, when the flame finally arrived, the children, now in home attires, filled the grounds and fought for space to watch the flame.
The flame was handed over by Joshua Kwaja Ellimah, Nzema East District Chief Executive to Anthony E. Amoah, Western Regional Minister who also handed it over to some paramount chiefs at the mini durbar.
Nana Bulumiatwum, Assemblyman for Nkroful, said the lack of potable water in Nkroful was the major concern of the people.
He said that the community had paid a counterpart fund of 150 million cedis to the assembly to enable the Western Regional Community Water Project (WRWP) to provide the town with potable water since December 15, 2006.
Nana Bulumiatwum expressed regret that the Kwame Nkrumah Educational Trust Fund (KNETFUND) established in 2004 has become dormant.
He said the town was rapidly expanding and efforts must be made to extend electricity to the new communities.
Nana Bulumiatwum said Nkroful was declared a district in 1965 but soon after the 1966 coup, that status was revoked and appealed to the government to restore the district status to Nkroful.
Mr. Amoah said the freedom flame must rekindle hope, unity, selflessness, patriotism, commitment and devotion towards the re-building of the country.
He urged the youth of Nkroful to emulate the examples of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and other men and women who toiled for the independence of the nation.
