The Ghana Actors Guild will in conjunction with the Ghana@50 Secretariat re-enact the 28th February Crossroad shooting incident today.
The occasion marks the 59th anniversary of the shooting incident that resulted in the killing of three servicemen when a number of them attempted to march to the Christiansburg Castle to present a petition to the then Governor of the Gold Coast to demand the payment of their end of service benefits promised them before they went to the world war II.
However, British officers opened fire killing three of the servicemen. The war veterans have since observed the event annually with a parade at the crossroads.
Significantly, today’s event would be marked differently as the Ghana Actors Guild in collaboration with the Ghana@50 secretariat will stage a re-enactment of the event.
Henry Okine, Public Relations Officer of the Secretariat, told Joy News that the re-enactment would inform and educate the current generation and the youth about events that ked to the killings.
He explained that since most of the youth were not born at the time, it would be an opportunity for them to learn about exactly what happened in order to appreciate the need to remember the heroes.
The Ghana Actors Guild and the Ghana@50 Secretariat similarly re-enacted the release of the First President of Ghana, Dr Kwame Nkrumah from prison about two weeks ago as part of efforts to mark Ghana’s 50th Independence Anniversary and to encourage the youth to learn more about the history of the country.
