A group of youth who support the New Patriotic Party presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo has condemned the recent violence in the Northern Region.
In a press release sent to the Accra Daily Mail, the liaison officer of the group called NOYONAA, Mr. Abdallah A. Rauf said, “NOYONAA unreservedly condemns the violence in the Tamale metropolis which occurred on the 31st of August and 1st of September respectively.”
The youth of the north, he said, need to realize that their lives go beyond political barriers and therefore need to unite to ensure lasting peace in the area.
NOYONAA is a nationwide group seeking to develop political consciousness among the youth of the north.
“NOYONAA believes that the youth of the north [should] unite for a common cause as the only way our beloved part of the country can witness the needed peace and development to win the battle against poverty,” he said.
Mr. Abdallah invited all northern brothers and sisters to come “home and work with an iron determination to ensure peace and development in the region because the future… depends on the youth who are the main victims of this violence”.
NOYONAA, he said, believes in the general improvement in the political, social and economic advancement of the youth in the north as a means to tackling the developmental gap between the south and north of the country.
“The philosophy we believe should be championed and promoted is that of Nana Akufo-Addo, the flag bearer of the NPP and the New Patriotic Party for the transformation of the north,” he said.
Nana Akufo-Addo, he said, is bent on providing the vehicle for the new generation to shape the destiny of the north and to develop a self reliant and buoyant economy.
“NOYONAA as well as the NPP are committed to ensuring that every Ghanaian feels and believes that there is safety and security of lives and property,” he said.
NOYONAA believes that the society and economy would flourish when people are free from fear and intimidation.
This, Mr. Abdallah said, should provide the platform for co-operation between all the ethnic groups on the level of promoting unity, strength, coexistence and tolerance.
“The fight for a lasting peace in northern Ghana is a prodigious task which calls for the total mobilization of our human and other resources and for an urgent determination on the part of each and every one of us to see to it that peace is achieved throughout northern Ghana,” Mr. Abdallah said.
