Nana Akufo-Addo must be feeling on top of his game now after that political play that obviously scored with the majority except honourable Kennedy Agyapong whose bravery has little bounds. VooDoo Child’s first encounter with the honourable was at the opening of his sister’s Hollywood Shopping arcade in Madina, Accra where he told invited guests and the crowd not to dabble in rumours that the project was financed with drug money.
Game was played by Papa Jerry in 1996
If the honourable could say that, how difficult it must have been to protest the choosing of an outsider as Nana Akufo-Addo’s running mate. Nana knows his political game and he fought fire with fire when he beat his cousin Owuraku Amofa to the seat he now holds in parliament. But analysts were right to point out that this game was played by Papa Jerry in 1996. The "outsider" shocker was effective as it served its purpose but heavyweight favourites like Iddrisu Mahama and then Majority leader Owusu Agyapong were played out. That play however continued unchecked and it culminated in the "damned" Swedru Declaration. Oh NDC, they never recovered from it.
That declaration was the last straw that sowed the seeds for the formation of the Reform Movement which became the Reform party. That Papa Jerry and NDC still underestimate the damage caused them by that declaration is obvious. The National Reform Party still exists, no? And now, the Ghana National Party; three parties sharing a politically progressive ideology but separated by declaration activities, the kind that got Maame Dorkono out of the NDC
Who is Attah-Mills, where did he come from?
Indeed a very peeved Reformist told VooDoo Child, "you know one of the reasons we have peace in Ghana? Rawlings hears of a tribal strife or other unrest somewhere, he takes a chopper and flies there to meet the people directly at night and they appreciate it and work things out." "Who is Attah Mills, where did he come from and what has he done?" Now to appreciate who a reformer was and his importance to the NDC then, picture the average reformer as one in his middle 30's to middle 40's, he or she was likely a cadre and held at least a first degree. The reformer probably liked Che Guevera and Noam Chormsky. He or she must have been a student leader and his first degree was likely acquired in the Aluta days when the students mobilised themselves to bring in the cocoa from the inner regions. You think these people take bull from anybody? One NDC executive described them as "intelligent and pragmatic but had no resources to form a political party" They were the future of the party and yet they were ignored.
The reformers took their activities a step further, and were chased out of their various positions; state offices and directorships. Of course there was outcry, even for Peter Kpordugbe, then National Service Director who practically forced young people to appreciate more, the four corners of the country. That nice residence in Labone that served as an office for some reformers was double confiscated. Goozie Tanoh, the anointed one almost went bankrupt as "madam" and her people allegedly did kululu on him. "You don’t do that to people" Goozie lamented in his famous interview on JOY FM that was also nearly "sabotaged". He survived and banded together with the against people to dethrone the NDC from power. What looked like a winning play in 1996 by President Rawlings became a double losing hand. As soon as that hand said "I will consult you night and day" at the party’s "World Bank" convention, disaster loomed. People saw visions of koliko with a bearded consultant and his wife pulling the strings. That phrase, "I will consult" became a watch word. Poor Mallam Issah was not warned. He repeated that phrase over and over again, "I will consult, oh for that one, I will consult." He consulted alright but the consultants did him 419.
What If Kpordugbe And His People Were Not Woman Handled Like Ogray
Who outplayed whom then and now, President Rawlings, the reformist, the old NDC guards? Nana Akufo-Addo is an all round player both on and off the field and should know. So it is tricky to point out for sure who is having the last laugh now but Peter Kpordugbe and his people had a good laugh and could say they blazed the trail for Dr. Obed Asamoah and his followers. What if Kpordugbe and his people were not woman handled like Ogray who now claims she has moved back home to her UP roots.
Until the NPP wins the elections, Maame Dokono cannot laugh and she is dribbling dangerously. Consult your memory back to the 2000 NPP convention in Legon when Alhaji Innusah thought he had the NPP National Organiser position wrapped up, being candidate JK’s friend also. Unfortunately for him, the man he was up against had a courageous name and used to take care of coup makers in the PNDC era. Major Courage Quarshigah used guerilla tactics and took care of Alhaji. What happened next was a political dribble that Krobo Edusei would have noted in his political book. Alhaji dribbled into the NDC area and Papa Jerry was impressed. Then NDC lost the elections and Alhaji Innusah dribbled himself, attempting to go back into the NPP and was met by a concrete barrier defence. Now tell Maame Dokono that time will tell if she really dribbled the NDC or herself. Auntie Omaboe says she is self-made and few would doubt it. We remember obraa aaah aah obra. That kenkey act certainly brought in revenue. This woman famously stood by the Rawlingses saying, "I love the man and I love the woman" when her property was raided by anti-NDC demonstrators.
Her loyalty may not be the question, it is the dribble. And we observe that and Nana’s play.
