The flag-bearer of the Convention People’s Party, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom has challenged the ruling New Patriotic Party to prove what they can do to move the nation forward as claimed by their campaign slogan.
“I am challenging all those people who are also saying that they believe in Ghana… to prove what is it they say they are going to do that will take us really forward,” he said.
He was speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on a wide range of issues.
He said the country had been causing great harm to its own citizens by placing priority on other nationals to the neglect of its own people.
“We cannot continue to do things against ourselves and expect that the Ghanaian will be enthusiastic to perform in his or her own country”, he pointed out.
The CPP flag-bearer cited the engagement of foreign coaches instead of local ones to take charge of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
He expressed regret that even where local coaches were engaged, they were given pea nuts.
Touching on the economy, Dr. Nduom said the state under his presidency would give support to industry in terms of money and technical assistance to enable them to grow.
That for him, would ensure that jobs were created for the majority of the people.
On education, he said his emphasis on technology required a literate society because “you cannot have citizens who can utilize science and technology successfully if they are not educated.”
Dr. Nduom said there would be a “free compulsory and continuous education – all three elements together, from kindergarten to senior high school including building the same standard school facility in the same compound” for all levels.
According to him, such buildings would have modern facilities such as laboratories, toilet facilities, play grounds, places for teachers to sit ad to live.
The CPP flag-bearer said his government would borrow to undertake that project if that was required to ensure that every child in Ghana went to school.
He said he would introduce education police to make that dream a reality.
