Ten inmates being held at the Nkawkaw Central Police Station last Saturday night, managed to escape from the cells.
The police however managed to re-arrest one of the escaped suspects in a bush near the Nkawkaw Secondary School.
The Nkawkaw District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Christopher Klomegah said there were 28 inmates in the cells when the incident occurred.
He said the inmates managed to cut some of the thick iron bars of the cells ceiling and escaped through a whole created.
Mr Klomegah said at the time of the incident, there were three police personnel on duty, with one of them armed with an AK 47-assault rifle.
He described the incident as negligence and laxity on the part of the police personnel on duty.
When the GNA got to the scene, the District Police Commander and the other police personnel were seen supervising the sealing up of the opening where the inmates used in their escape.
He said the suspect captured would be put before court tomorrow, while efforts are being made to re-arrest the others whose names were not disclosed due to security risk.
Mr Klomegah said no trace of any implement used in cutting the iron bars had been seen.
