The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has called on NAGRAT to support the various political actors in the country to ensure incident-free elections.
It said this year’s elections were crucial and had the potential to derail the peace being enjoyed by the country if not properly handled.
The president of the Union, Mr. Kweku Tuoho Bombason made the call at the 7TH National Delegates Congress of NAGRAT.
The congress was on the theme: “Sustaining Democracy in Ghana – The role of Teacher Unions”.
Mr. Bombason said “teachers undoubtedly have the ability to determine the political direction of Ghana given the fact that you can without qualms determine the fortunes of a political party.”
He has therefore appealed to them to help develop a political system that will ensure enhanced development in the country.
He also appealed to the NAGRAT members to help “discourage students from acts that will plunge the nation into chaos and anarchy.”
“It is [also] gratifying to note that NAGRAT has come to give hope to many otherwise hopeless teachers of our country who are defying the odds to impart knowledge to the future leaders of our country”, he stated.
The NUGS President commended the leaders of NAGRAT for shelving sectional interests for the collective good of all its members.
