Student leaders must be focused

A Communication Consultant, Mr. Kobby Acheampong has called on student leaders to make the interest of students paramount in all their dealings. He said students who chose to lead must endeavour to leave legacies worthy of remembering. Mr. Acheapong who is also a lecturer at the African University College of Communication (AUCC) was speaking at a joint ceremony to hand over to and swear-in new SRC executive of the school. He urged students to support their leaders to better serve their needs. He expressed the hope that the newly elected SRC executive will co-operate with the school authorities to advance the course of the university. Mr. Acheampong stressed the need for students of the AUCC to discover themselves from the university. The newly elected SRC president, Henry Marbell in his acceptance speech gave the assurance that he will be guided by the supreme interest of the students in all decisions. He called for support from all students of the university since unity of purpose was a necessary ingredient in the realization of the aspirations of the students. Mr. Marbell also assured the students that vindictiveness and political vendetta will not be part of his reign. “I wish to state that the trust and confidence reposed in us will not be betrayed”, he emphasized. The new SRC president also advised students in general to avoid acts that will jeopardise their security in the December elections. He reminded them of the potential for politicians to seek to use them to advance their narrow parochial interest and cautioned against falling prey to such tendencies. According to him, he and the other executive will remain united and work assiduously towards achieving academic excellence for the university. The other executive are Fiifi Botchway Ninson, Vice president, Linda Mireku, Secretary, Fredrick Aidoo and Babayara K. David, Financial Secretary and Local NUGS president respectively. The rest were Women Commissioner, Nana Ama Bamfo, Organiser, Bernard Attiah Donkor and Ella Nongo Christine, Welfare Officer. Story by Malik Abass Daabu
