The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. John Evans Atta Mills concluded his second tour to the Central Region with the hope of taking over the region in the forthcoming elections.
The party has been campaigning vigorously in the region to improve on its electoral fortunes, in order to avoid defeat in the 2008 general elections.
In the 2004 elections, the former Vice President had 39% of the votes cast, while the party settled for two out of the 16 Parliamentary seats in the region.
But the Campaign Spokesman for Prof. Atta Mills, Mahama Ayariga told Joy News, all indications point to the fact that the region will this time round fall for the NDC.
Very optimistic about the party’s chances in the region, he said, there have been overwhelming turnouts in certain places they previously failed to shine.
Having accessed the performance of the NPP government and Prof. Mills when he was in government, the people, he said have resolved to trust the leadership of the country into the hands of the Professor.
“They have come to the conclusion clearly that Prof. John Evans Atta Mills deserves to be given the opportunity to steer the affairs of this country,” Mahama Ayariga noted.
He also took respite in an “independent and scientific” opinion poll, conducted by Ben Ephson, the Editor of the Daily Dispatch that all is well with the party, so far as the Central Region is concerned.
He said, according to the pollster, “unless something drastic happens”, the NDC’s flag-bearer will win in the region and perform very well in the Western region,.
However, some of the people in the Central Region Joy News’ talked to, expressed divergent views about the fortunes of the party.
