The Anglican Bishop of Accra, Rt Rev. Dr. Justice Ofei Akrofi, has advised Christians to be wary of politicians whose utterances and behaviour can disturb the prevailing peace in the country.
"The search for peace is our Christian duty, commitment and endeavour if we fail to secure peace, we shall account for our failings before God," he said.
Rev. Dr. Akrofi made the call at the opening of the 19th synod of the church in Accra yesterday.
The three-day synod has the theme: "Let them both grow until the harvest," participants will discuss the failures, and achievements of the church and the way forward.
Rev. Dr. Akrofi, who is also the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of the Province of West Africa, said it is the duty of Christians to exercise their franchise and advised them to vote wisely, guided by values that make peace.
He cautioned participants not to be complacent about the statement that "Ghana is an oasis of peace.
"Peace is not a once for all attainment, it is a commodity to be worked at and sustained," he added.
Rev. Dr. Ofei cited the Bawku crisis which has resulted in the killing of women and children, and said it is a reminder that the peace associated with Ghana cannot be taken for granted.
Turning to the church, he noted that the financial and economic viability of the Diocese of Accra is proving elusive because of the national economic situation as well as donor fatigue.
