Nana Obiri Boahene, Minister of State at the Interior Ministry has assured Ghanaians that the Police will work diligently to maintain peace in the upcoming elections.
He said the government and the security services need adequate information from the general public in order to flush out deviants in trouble spots across the country.
Speaking at a symposium to mark the 10th Anniversary of the West Africa Network for Peace Building (WANEP), the minister said, government is adopting a lot of measures to ensure lasting peace in Bawku and other conflict areas in the country.
He cited the recent arrest of the 17 suspects in the region, by the Northern Regional Security Council, saying, they were deliberately brought down to Accra for prosecutions to begin.
If found guilty, Nana Obiri Boahene insisted, they will serve their jail terms right here in Accra.
This he said will deter others from engaging in acts of violence.
The symposium which was under the theme, “Consolidating the Peace in Ghana through elections 2008”, brought together speakers from the Electoral Commission as well as the National Commission on Civic Education.
