The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Patrick Akwasi Kwarteng Acheampong, has advised Ghanaians to desist from any behaviour which will bring disaffection and intolerance during the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
He said they must not allow their political differences to impact negatively on the country's peace and tranquility.
Inaugurating two police stations and living quarters at Subiri and Anhwiaso in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District in the Anhwiaso Traditional Area, at separate ceremonies at the weekend, Mr Acheampong said, "as a people we would naturally have a party to support or belong to but that does not mean your opponent should be your enemy".
He therefore called on all to ensure that their campaigns were conducted with decorum to enhance a peaceful election.
He noted that many countries had suffered because of political differences, and urged the people to be circumspect in their utterances.
The Subri police station cost GH¢40,000 whiles the Anhwiaso police station cost GH¢49,000 and two semi detached police living quarters at Ahwiaso also cost GH¢80,000.
The project was financed through the assembly's share of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).
The IGP commended the district assembly and the traditional council for their efforts, and was of the hope that the people would cooperate with the police to ensure effective security in the area.
The IGP advised the people, especially the youth, to refrain from instant justice, which he said was becoming a norm.
He noted that it would be prudent for the people to send any body arrested to the police for investigations to be conducted.
He stressed that it was at the police station that through interrogations of the suspect, other culprits involved could be traced.
Mr. Kingsley Agyei-Manu, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said it was the desire of the assembly to use resources judiciously, which has resulted in a number of development projects being undertaken in the district.
The Omanhene of the Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, commended the assembly for putting up such structures, which he described as magnificent.
He stressed that it truly demonstrated the recognition of the significant services the police were rendering to the people.
Ogyeahoho Gyebi personally donated a tabletop refrigerator and a television set to the Anhwiaso police.
He also said the Anhwiaso Traditional Council would provide computers for the stations to enhance effective administrative work.
The Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mohammed Alhassan, accompanied the IGP.
