Zenabu Alidu, a business woman, was on Friday remanded into Prison custody for allegedly smuggling items including dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp into the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison in Cape Coast.
The other items included Pepper, Salt, Maggie Cubes, a box of Indomie Noodles, Toothbrush, Pepsodent Toothpaste, Key Soap, Geisha Soap, Maggie Sauce, Bottles of Coke, Biscuits, Starkist Tin Tuna Flakes, two pairs of Men’s Sandals, a pair of shorts and shirts.
She pleaded not guilty and will be re-arraigned before a Cape Coast Circuit Court on Wednesday June 4, 2014.
Police Chief Inspector Charles Anku told the court, presided over by Mrs. Florence Kai Otu, that on Monday, May 19, 2014 around 17:00 hrs, Zenabu, 27, a resident of Newtown in Accra, went to the Ankaful Maximum Security Prisons carrying a black polythene containing the said items under the pretense of delivering them to two inmates, Masahudu Mukeedi and Ali Mohamed.
He said on reaching the security gate, the items were thoroughly searched by the duty officer during which some dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found, concealed in the two pairs of sandals.
He said the accused, upon interrogation, could not give any tangible reasons and was handed over to the police together with the items.
