The Cape Coast Diocese of the Catholic Church is to hold a three-day Prayer Congress in August at Ajumako Bisease for a peaceful and successful election in December 2008.
The Congress, which would be led by the Bishop of Cape Coast, Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson and Bishop Mathias Nketesia, Auxiliary Bishop, would start from August 28 this year.
The congress dubbed: “CHARISFEST 2008” under the theme; “Watch and pray” would be organized by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Group, a prayer foundation in the Church.
Speaking at Ajumako Bisease in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District of the Central Region, Mr. Francis Agyei-Amponsah, Diocesan Co-coordinator of the Group, said over 2000 participants throughout the country are expected at the Congress.
He said the Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur would be the guest of honour.
Mr. Agyei-Amponsah stressed the need for peace and harmony, which he noted, were a prerequisite for people to worship without hindrance and urged Christians who form about 80 percent of the population to take part in the congress.
Delivering a sermon to launch the congress, the Reverend Father Anthony Enyinful, Priest in-charge of the St. Michael’s Parish, Bisease, noted that the peace the nation was currently enjoying was the work of God.
He appealed to the electorate and politicians not to think of their personal and selfish gains to disrupt the elections.
