President Kufuor has again invited the Chief of Bawku, Naba Asigri Abugragu Azoba for another round of talks at the Castle on Thursday.
The meeting is part of ongoing consultative process in search of a solution to the ethnic disturbances in Bawku.
The president met with the Bawku Naba and elders of the Mamprusis last month.
Ahead of Thursday’s meeting Presidential spokesman Mr. Andrew Awuni says the president has appealed to the warring factions to exercise restraint and give peace a chance.
The president said that was necessary to allow for efforts to find lasting solutions to the age old ethnic conflict in the area.
Mr. Awuni told Joy News that the president will be briefed by the Bawku Naba on the situation.
President Kufuor based on the briefing will make specific contribution towards resolving the crisis.
According to Mr. Awuni, the deep seated nature of the issues underpinning the conflict made it imperative for such issues to be considered thoroughly.
That he said will ensure that the root causes of the conflict are identified and addressed.
On whether the president will be meeting both factions on the same platform, Mr. Awuni said “When it becomes necessary for president to meet with both sides he will do so”.
Reacting to concerns that the president’s physical presence at Bawku is necessary to calm tensions and bring about peace, Mr. Awuni said, “The president will love to go to Bawku.
“The will do it at the very minute it becomes appropriate and possible”.
