The Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Association (GBA) Moses Foh Amoaning, says the GBA dissociates itself from tomorrow’s fight between boxing greats, Azumah Nelson of Ghana and Australia’s Jeff Fenech.
He said the two are over-aged and putting up a fight of about ten rounds will affect their health negatively.
Azumah, who is 49 years, has agreed to fight the 44-year-old Fenech in Sydney, Australia at 10am tomorrow.
Speaking to Asempa Sports, Mr. Foh Amoaning said the two opponents had earlier informed the GBA that the bout would be an exhibition. However, with the two parties signing contracts to engage in the fight, the GBA says its laws would not permit it.
Australian doctors have reportedly spoken against the bout, and some have even described the two legends as being “mad” to engage in such a match.
Meanwhile, Jeff Fenech, like Azumah, has declared himself fit for the bout. He was speaking in interview with Asempa Sports.
He told Christopher Opoku that he has had the best preparations and hopes to win against Azumah, recalling his grudge two earlier fights he failed against his colleague Hall-of-famer.
Jeff Fenech said while he thought he had done enough to win the first fight which was declared a draw, Azumah was just superb in the second, resulting in his (Azumah) knockout win.
However, he said, it is now his turn to win.
