Dr. Kwesi Ennin, Head of Conflict Prevention, Management and Resolution Department at the Kofi Annan International Peace Training Centre (KAIPTC), has appealed to the youth wings of all political parties to be careful with their utterances on political platforms.
He said as frontline activists, they should preach peace, tolerance and let "discipline drive the campaign".
Dr. Ennin said this at the launch of Inter-Party Youth Committee (IPYC) in the Volta Region at Ho on Saturday.
It was on the theme: “Youth for peaceful elections 2008", and sponsored by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES).
Dr. Ennin said the campaigns of political parties were being characterized by "dangerous rhetoric statements" and called on the youth wings to tone down the anxiety by employing decent language and good choice of words on the campaign platform.
He described the youth as critical actors in the impending election and urged them to know their leadership roles and play them responsibly to ensure peaceful, free and fair election in December.
“You the youths are the nation's leaders now, therefore you need to play your roles in a responsible way for the star of Ghana to shine high again as in the days of independence", he said.
Representatives of the four political parties in Parliament; New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic
Congress (NDC), People's National Convention (PNC) and Convention People's Party (CPP) made presentations towards ensuring peaceful, free and fair election in December.
Ms Kathrin Meissner, Resident Director of FES, said the workshop was to help youths from the various political parties co-exist without any conflict.
